My first solo and ambient album.

The first three tracks are piano performances of Erik Satie's Gymnopedies and the last three tracks are my interpretations of the Gymnopedies in a modern ambient-music style. The album is for my undergraduate thesis, but it is a project that has been on my mind for almost five years, and I am very proud that it is finally complete

"The Trois Gymnopedies are simple, sparse, and slow. If one lets the music sit in the back of his or her mind, it does not distract. The chords are dissonant, yet they don’t always resolve. Rather the dissonance does not pull the listener in any one direction: the listener does not react to the dissonance in the same way as other classical pieces. There is no grandiose plot or journey. The music simply is. The music is like a space or atmosphere that surrounds the listener. Although, if the listener chooses to pay close attention to the Gymnopedies, one will find Satie’s heartbreaking melodies and harmonies to be beautiful, not boring. The Trois Gymnopedies are humble, yet vast: simple and articulate." - J. C. Dorsey
